About the WWE

The initials WWE stand for World Wrestling Entertainment: a U.S based entertainment company and wrestling promotion that specialises in professional wrestling. Major revenue is generated from movie, music, merchandising, ticket and DVD sales. As of 2014, WWE is broadcasted in over 150 countries including UK, Japan and Canada.

Like so many other wrestling organisations, WWE's shows are fictional and entertainment - based featuring story-lines and scripted matches, though they often include moves that can put performers at risk of injury, and even at worse, death, if not performed or executed correctly.

The huge success and popularity of the World Wrestling Entertainment brand and its vast array of characters who don their spandex outfits and step into the ring to face their arch nemesis, has spawned various artwork and fan art from around the world. From legends Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, The Undertaker and Macho Man Randy Savage to post - Millennium heavyweights, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H and John Cena, the WWE are no shortage of recognizable names; many of whom have contributed so much to wrestling culture over the past decade.

Despite the criticisms and negativity it has evoked over the past 10 years, the WWE is still the biggest global wrestling entertainment promotion around.

In mark of the 35th anniversary of the WWE that goes way back on February 21 1980, I have selected 25 of my favourite pieces of WWE related wrestler artwork from the web from a variety of sources such as comics, fan art and mediums such as drawing and painting.
