Mini Movie Review: Freerunner (2011) #badmovies

Freerunner
2011
Action

I actually do see freerunning as something that could be turned into a legitimate movie - if it had any quality going for it, but Freerunner isn't it. Never Back Down's Sean Farris, also of King of Fighters, is in this one and he plays a freerunner where he gets to run about and kick people. The twist is he, alongside several other runners, has an exploding collar around his neck and he and his friends face a race against time. It's akin to Death Race and it is part - The Running Man with the gameshow- like skit. With an estimated budget of $5 million spent, acting, at times, is not convincing, the gory effects were cheap looking, the rest of the story flatters to entertain, it's utterly dreary. The stunts with people running about and jumping from rooftops are fine for 2 or 3 scenes, but after a while, it becomes tedious and gets old, fast. Initially, Freerunner had an IMDb rating of 7, but that has since dropped over time. The dialogue is non-existent most of the time, performances unconvincing and the camerawork is shaky. You may want to run away from this Z-grade offering and take a look at French equivalent, District B-13. & a film that is supposedly way better than this schlock. I can't find a single thing that I genuinely liked, never mind loved about Freerunner. Brainless, uber-low with random and pointless nudity thrown in and overall, it's just unwatchable. I didn't make it beyond 15 mins. That's how bad it was.

Is It Worth Watching?

Not unless you enjoy freerunning
